Environmental Law and Policy (H. Dorem*s)

This introductory course is designed to explore fundamental legal and policy issues in environmental law. Through examination of environmental common law and key federal environmental statutes, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act, it exposes students to the major challenges to environmental law and the principal approaches to meeting those challenges, including litigation, command and control regulation, technology forcing, market incentives, and information disclosure requirements. With the addition of cross-cutting topics such as risk assessment and environmental federalism, it also gives students a grounding in how choices about regulatory standards and levels of regulatory authority are made.

Great lecturer - clear, engaging. Thought she did a very good job balancing lecturing and class discussion.

Engaging lecturer, She does an excellent job at trying to keep the class balanced even though 95% of those enroled would consider themselves to be environmentalist. She also won't let you weasle out of a cold call and presses you for an opinion on the topic (i.e. "so what would you have said if you were the judge" So you must pay attention in class!)
was really disappointed with the closed book, closed note final exam. Env. law and policy is full of technical info and doesn't not lend itself well to a closed book final. I felt cheated when I was tested on vocabulary and acronyms. I think it did a disservice to what we learned.
