Law & History Foundation Seminar (D. Lieb*rman)

Law and History: Foundation Seminar is designed to introduce the discipline of legal history and to consider its contribution to broader areas of legal scholarship. Seminar Readings – comprised chiefly of book-length interpretations of major episodes of legal change and institutional development - have been chosen to illustrate characteristic areas of research, methods of inquiry, and interpretative controversies within the contemporary practice of legal history. Two general themes receive extensive attention: the relationship between legal history and changes in economy and society; and the historical study of courts and of the relationship between courts and the communities in which they function.
